Not from around here

A visit by Mikey P, a college friend, brought a few of us together out to Dumbo (down under the manhattan bridge overpass) for some pizza (we waited in line nearly an hour for a seat along with tons of tourists) and some chocolate (YUM!). It's a place I've been meaning to go, but never quite had a good reason. It was a great way to spend a lazy Sunday.

Marsh Maze

To close out summer, a friend and I took the train an hour north along the Hudson to Cold Spring, NY and kayaked around Constitution Marsh. First, I did the limbo in the kayak under a railroad bridge. Literally, I slid down into the kayak and had only a few inches of clearance.

We spent four hours cruizing around, checking out potential paths through the reeds and then found our way to a waterfall that a guide we passed had declared was "way out at the end of the marsh". He wasn't kidding. When it was time to come to shore I was beat. When you hit a deadend in the beginning it's all in the name of fun. When you hit a deadend on the way back it's a lot more frustrating. We had to paddle non-stop for the last hour just to make it back in time, but it was an awesome adventure.
