October 11, 2006Open HouseColumbus Day weekend is Open House New York weekend, which means that you can do a lot of events and see a lot of place (some of which aren't even regularly open) for FREE. This past weekend I checked out a bunch of places including Grant's Tomb. Who's buried there you ask? Well, no one is buried there actually but Grant and his wife are entombed. I would have thought he'd be buried somewhere other than NYC (although why not stay for eternity in such a wonderful city?). Turns out his wife made the call and since she was living in midtown, it was just convenient for him to rest on the upper west side.
It was a beautiful weekend for siteseeing and I totally felt like a tourist, which was a lot of fun. The weekend was capped off with a quiet lunch at the 79th street boathouse cafe watching the boats gently sway in the water.
