December 21, 2005Strike: Day 2
I heard a few more people complaining today, but as they said on the news the cliche works.. New Yorkers are ‘taking it in stride’ as we all walk around town. I've been amazed because walking almost two miles only adds about 10-15 minutes to my morning commute. This is a very busy week for me and I've actually been in the office before my normal hour. Yesterday there was mass chaos at Grand Central and the police even had to close many of the entrances. That's because Metro North is still running and is a good alternative for many people. Cabs are not a good alternative. The city's contingency plan has cabs set up in zones. The moment you get it, it's an automatic $10 and each time you cross a zone (Manhattan has five I think) it's an additional $5. That means if I want to take a cab to work (just under two miles), the fare is $15. Oh and you don't save any money by sharing - rates are per person. How long will this go on? I had my money on Friday, but there haven't been any new talks and the workers are angry. This could go on for awhile.

December 06, 2005Men are from MarsI rarely write about boys I'm smitten with on this blog. Partially I'm superstitious and am convinced if I talk about someone too much, it'll be doomed. Partially I'm convinced if I say something bad about them - they'll google me and find it. And partially I'm just too lazy. Well, it hasn't worked for me yet so I thought I'd give it a try... I met a boy (hmm.. no big surprise since I live in a city with like a billion boys). I met a boy that I liked, wait like - no need to use the past tense just quite yet. Well... I met him over a month ago so maybe past is more appropriate. I met this guy and we had a slight email banter for about a week, maybe two and then... nothing. I decided to Carp A Deem and sent a little nonchalant email "want to grab lunch". Then I was out there - checking the email - did he write. I felt so exposed. And he did! Wow, I'm really building this up for the fairy tale ending - don't wait around because I'm back in the same situation and he even asked for my number again in round two. That's the worst because now I check my email and phone in anticipation. I'm a lady of the 21st century but the ball is definately out of my court on this one. I guess I'd be more upset if I hadn't met another guy that caught my eye...
