November 30, 2005Christmas in Gotham
Although I live in New York City, it is often my mom that informs me of what is going on here. So when I got a call from her that the tree in Rock Center was being lit tonight, I finished what I was doing and hoped on the subway. I filed out on Sixth Ave, which was smart because there was no access on Fifth. There were herds of people and a wiggled my way pretty far up. Yes, that photo was taken from pretty far up. I think some of those people had been hanging out since lunchtime. I only lasted about 15 minutes and then took the subway home to watch the lighting. At least I can say I was there for the annual event on my first christmas in the big city.

November 28, 2005Weekend long Turkey NapI think I still have that triptophan stuff in my veins because I was such a lazy bum at work. I actually raced out of there at 6pm, the earliest I've escaped on a non-holiday / non-friday since I can remember. I've been avoiding some mindless tasks and today I was glad that I had done that because I was certainly mindless. Yesterday on the way back to the city from Connecticut, my travel friends were strewn throughout the car (too crowded to sit together). I was reading Phil's newspaper and jamming to Spoon. About a dozen stops and a half hour later, someone walked along the isle and folded down my paper. I glared up with my irritated face "can't these people move along without disturbing me?", and it was Heather! I was so astonished. What are the chances that she would take the same train and even more wierd (because there aren't that many trains to choose from) but more wierd that she would choose the same car! Actually one time before that I saw Heather and Kara on the highway randomly, in bad traffic jam. Maybe the stars were just aligned.
