Painters Cap

The last two weekends I've been helping other people paint their places. Why break the streak? This week I decided I'd do a little painting too, but this time I would paint my own room. The room was this burnt mustard color and we were playing phone tag with the landlord to see if he was going to paint. I was sick of having my wall stuff in boxes and so I decided I would just go ahead and paint it myself. I only have three walls to paint (the fourth is brick so I lucked out on that one).

Even still, I only managed to paint two walls. I didn't realize how much stuff I had and trying to manuver around it all was a bit tricky. Although it wasn't all peachy, I did have to do one coat primer and then a coat of white. I actually want to paint the third wall a faint yellow but the landlord busted a gut when he saw what the last girl did. Really, I don't know what she was thinking.

Wouldn't you guess that the landlord got back to us after I finished the second wall and said they were working on getting someone over?

Auto Discrimination

I left my car at some friends for the week for convenience. It was out in the road in Bridgeport not even 2.5 days and the police slapped this sticker on the driver's side door. Talk about car discrimination! As if I would ever abandon my special little car. She may have a few defects and be in need of a little cosmetic work but I love her just the same. If that had been a new BMW on the street for two days I doubt they would have slapped on that ugly orange sticker.

The good news is that no tow truck took my little car away. I have a tough time removing the stickers on my car. Maybe it's lazyness but they are part of the history of the car - a collage or scrapbook of the car's existance. The prior owners had college stickers for their children. It's been five years since I bought it and I have yet to take them off. Of course, the car is garaged at my parents and my father was already eyeballing the razorblade to take off this tacky sticker before I had even left. Not every experience can make it into the scrapbook.

Vampires

The good news is that when I stay late, work picks up the tab for up to $15 of my diner. The bad news is that I'm at work late. Yesterday I started working at 8:30 am, worked straight through lunch and diner (on the company tab) and didn't leave the office until 11pm. Given the hour, I decided the company would pick up the cost of my cab ride home (one of the other perks for working late). If I hadn't snuck out for lunch I wouldn't even have seen the light of day or noticed the amazing weather. I heard through the grapevine the temperatures reached 60 degrees.

I decided to leave today at 7pm. Everyone else in the department was still there, but I knew I was not going to be productive. I think I got a bit of the evil-eye, as I departed. I'm not used to this whole scene; it's not too long ago that I came and went as I saw fit. Granted that often meant staying late and working on the weekend, but when I felt like leaving I did. As I learned from Rocco, why stay when you're going to be unproductive to a fault, when you can gather up some strength and come back refreshed and ultraproductive?

Somehow I don't think my new company will buy into the idea of naps in the office or extra-flexible hours.
